Prepares students for the AP Exam. Focuses on becoming skilled readers of prose from various periods and rhetorical contexts and becoming skilled writers for various purposes. Covers language manipulation, literary devices, and rhetoric.

Skilled reading of prose, poetry, and drama. Writing-intensive class focusing on interpretation, evaluation, and advanced techniques in composition. Includes study of social and cultural values of literary works.

Examines African-American literature in socio-political and cultural contexts. Explores themes of identity and political/cultural impact. Includes SAT/ACT vocabulary and test prep.

Examines techniques for creative writing through genres including memoir, fiction, poetry, and drama. Emphasis on unique style and subject matter.

Introduces academic writing challenges of college. Focuses on analysis using literature, film, art, and poetry. Includes well-sourced research and academic essays.

Continues critical thinking focus. Primary objective is writing a well-researched, credibly sourced, substantial research paper.

Explores books written in the last 20 years. Focuses on fostering a love of reading and strong academic analysis.

Offers opportunity to express self through wide variety of genres and techniques. Focuses on critical thinking, reading, writing, and understanding language conventions.
