Provides students an opportunity to develop projects based on the knowledge, understanding, and application of the elements of art and principles of design. Students will experience the creative problem-solving process, learn technical skills in a variety of media and learn to verbally evaluate their work and the work of others.

Students will be taught how to use line, shape, value, and compositional strategies to create drawings from observation. Subjects include still life, portraits, figure drawings, landscapes, and interiors.

Pursue in-depth work with new and familiar techniques and materials. Color theory may be studied and used. Original ideas will be expressed through classroom assignments.

Instruction in materials, techniques, equipment, and vocabulary of ceramic art, including pottery and other forms. Hand-built and wheel-thrown forms are taught.

Improve and refine skills on the potter's wheel. Students undertake complex hand-building projects and learn studio mechanics such as mixing glazes and firing kilns.

Study of art in the third dimension including carving, modeling, casting, and assemblage using clay, stone, wood, wax, and metals.

Learn to paint using techniques and materials including acrylics, oils, pastels, and watercolors. Emphasis on color schemes and compositional skills.

Instruction includes operation of SLR and digital cameras, black and white film processing, and darkroom enlarging procedures.

Build on basic concepts and skills. Experimentation with SLR and digital cameras. Advanced darkroom procedures and creative assignments.

Perfection of skills in 35mm manual photography. Mastery of image taking and darkroom techniques. Exploration of historical and traditional print making methods.

College-level course intended for building a portfolio assessed by the College Board. Media includes photography, printmaking, painting, digital design, and illustration.

College-level course to build a portfolio for assessment by the College Board. Involves high level of proficiency in 3D design.
