Civil Engineering and Architecture is the study of the design and construction of residential and commercial building projects. The course includes an introduction to many of the varied factors involved in building design and construction including building components and systems, structural design, storm water management, site design, utilities and services, cost estimation, energy efficiency, and careers in the design and construction industry. The major focus of the CEA course is to expose students to the design and construction of residential and commercial building projects, design teams and teamwork, communication methods, engineering standards, and technical documents. Pre-requisites: Architectural Design I, Interior Design OR three courses from Engineering Foundations Program of Study 8991 - Practicum in Education and Training 2 credits / Full year course / Grades: 12 This course provides a more in-depth experience as an intern in a local Katy ISD Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade classroom. Lesson creation, classroom management skills, and teaching methods are studied and practiced. Students work alongside a teacher mentor and assist with all aspects of instruction. Pre-requisites: Principles of Education and Training AND Human Growth and Development AND Instructional Practices in Education and Training This course is offered at the home campus. Note: Students must provide their own transportation. 8540VIR - Principles of Business, Marketing, and Finance A (Virtual 1.0 credits / Full year course / Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 8601VIR - Foundations of Bus Comm and TechnologiesA(Virtual 1.0 credits / Full year course / Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 Students learn computer skills essential for college and work readiness using the industry standard Microsoft Office Suite. Students produce a variety of Word documents, create excel spreadsheets and charts, develop and maintain Access databases, and design professional PowerPoint presentations. Outlook is introduced as a necessary skill in college and work. This course must be completed during the Fall and/or Spring semesters. Students are scheduled in after-school periods to complete the asynchronous course. There is a fee assigned to this course.
