Long Beach Unified School District ROP – Introduction to Art Exploration

Principles of Design. This course is an exploration of visual art forms and their cultural connections. Students will examine and analyze works of art based on their subject, form/composition and content. Students will learn the Elements of Art (line, value, shape/form, color and texture) and apply these to their understanding of art. Students will examine the role and effect of the visual arts throughout history in a variety of world cultures and will also examine the work of specific artists and a variety of careers available in the visual arts. This course embeds studio art activities that can be done with basic art supplies.
Prerequisites: This course is designed for students who receive Specialized Academic Instruction (SIA) and would benefit from extended opportunities to engage in art projects that will deepen their understanding of the Elements of Art and
