Lincoln High SchoolSpeech & Debate: Beginning

Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester

Public speaking is still one of the most common phobias that affects a majority of the U.S. population. There is no better place to find your voice than in this safe and welcoming environment. All students are eligible to enroll and develop their skills in speaking and writing. Students will explore various forms of speaking and argumentation, from poetry to debate and many ways in between. Students will debate each other in individual, partner and community formats to strengthen their ability to think on their feet and organize their thoughts. We will start the year with basic public speaking exercises and by the end of the year we will be debating domestic policy issues while challenging our understanding of logical fallacies. There is no requirement to compete on the team; however, team members will have time to work on tournament preparation.
