Legal Environment of Business addresses statutesand regulations affecting businesses, families, andindividuals. All students will benefit from theknowledge of business law as they will eventuallyassume roles as citizens, workers, and consumersin their communities and in society at large.Students will get an overview of business lawwhile concentrating on the legal aspects ofbusiness ownership and management. Legal issuesaddressed include court procedures, contracts,torts, consumer law, employment law,environmental law, international law, ethics, andthe role of the government in business. Studentswill not only understand the concepts but will alsoapply their knowledge to situations and defendtheir actions, decisions, and choices. Variousforms of technologies will be highlighted toexpose students to the emerging technologiesimpacting the business world. Professionalcommunication skills and practices, problemsolving, ethical and legal issues, and the impact ofeffective presentation skills are expanded in thiscourse to prepare students to be college andcareer ready. Employability skills are integratedinto activities, tasks, and projects throughout thiscourse to demonstrate skills required by businessand industry. Competencies in the cocurricularstudent organization, Future Business Leaders ofAmerica (FBLA), are integral components of boththe employability skills and content standards ofthis course.
