Explore the financial world as students dive into themain areas of financial services, including banking,investing, and insurance. Basics of banking andcredit include a brief history of money and banking,negotiable instruments, creation of credit, and thefunction of banks. Methods for measuring thefinancial performance of financial institutions areanalyzed. Students will be introduced to a variety ofinvestment options and learn to determine theappropriate options for an investment goal. Byanalyzing financial reports and employing othertools to predict growth rates and return oninvestment, students will develop strategies toproduce financial growth strategies for a business.Through projects, students will determine the risksfaced by individuals and businesses and decide onthe proper risk management techniques to mitigatethose risks. Investigating both personal and businessinsurance products and deciding which products aresuitable for a specific customer profile will becovered. Ethical issues and case studies involved inthe financial services industry will be used todetermine how industry regulations are developed.An investigation of careers in the financial servicesindustry will be explored throughout this course.Concepts of this course will be enhanced by businesspartnerships with community financial institutions,investment firms, insurance companies, stockmarket simulations, guest speakers, virtualexperiences, technology, and field trips. Variousforms of technologies and internet research will behighlighted to expose students to the resources inthe financial industry. Employability skills areintegrated into activities, tasks, and projectsthroughout the course standards to demonstrate theskills required by business and industry. Banking,Investing, and Insurance is the final course in theFinancial Services pathway in the Finance Cluster.
