Students explore plays from the perspectives of actors and directors, and examine the strategies of playwrights to develop the ability to imagine the play in performance and to appreciate the range of theatre possibilities. The course focuses on the expressive use of the body and voice, acting concepts and skills, theatre production concepts and skills, and aesthetic growth through appreciation of theatrical events. Students explore relaxation and preparatory techniques, pantomime, stage movement, voice and diction, improvisation, dramatic structure, analysis and interpretation of scripts and characters, and the interdependence of all theatrical elements. Additional coursework includes technical theatre, appreciation of theatre, audience etiquette, and the analysis and evaluation of theatrical experiences. A course fee is required. THEATRE ARTS 2
