Irvington High – Dance 1

Students will study the basic aspects and qualities of the art of dance. Different styles of dance will be taught: Jazz, ballet, contemporary, ballroom ,modern and culturally responsive dances. Activities will involve principles of improvisations of choreographed routines; researching period dances; and study techniques of different choreographers, dance groups, and musical productions. If class composition permits, a dance recital will be produced in the spring semester. Sections will be divided by experience and ski ll level if there is sufficient enrollment. Dance shoes and costumes may be needed. Outside rehearsals are required.
