Irvington High – Engineering Technician Assistant

This course builds on previous knowledge of 2D and 3D designing students learned in Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), and/or Principals of Engineering (POE). Students learn to operate and maintain, including repairing, all available machinery in the Engineering Lab. Students will support Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), Principals of Engineering (POE) students in class. Equipment ranges from 3D printers, Laser cutters, robotic arms, force probes, motors. Students will be supporting POE and IED students during class time. skills: Slicing software, running & maintaining 3D printers, running and maintaining laser cutter, using sensors and graphical analysis software, motor repair, including soldering.(enhance their understanding of Adobe Illustrator, Fusion 360 and/or Onshape. Students will also have the opportunity to explore other CAD and digital design platforms and apply them to create independent projects and/or one year long independent projects, [which they may present at engineering fairs such as Maker Faire or Engineering Expo]. After completing the course students will be prepared to apply their knowledge in a university and potentially in a professional engineering career setting.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), Principals of Engineering (POE) or engineering teacher recommendation
