Independence High School – Small Animal Management

This course is designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the ownership, selection, reproduction, nutritional requirements, health and management, and breed identification of a variety of small animals common to the pet industry. This is a laboratory-oriented course that gives students hands-on experience in working with a variety of small animals that may include, but are not limited to dogs, cats, Guinea pigs, rabbits, other small mammals, as well as birds, reptiles and amphibians. It is highly recommended that students interested in the Veterinary Medical Applications program take Small Animal Management. Students may also capitalize on the opportunity to join the FFA organization. Course will count toward fulfilling a prerequisite for Veterinary Medical Applications and Advanced Animal Science.
