In this year-long course, students of all skill levels explore the exciting and dynamic genre of jazz music in a supportive and inclusive environment. This non-auditioned ensemble provides aspiring musicians with the tools and experiences necessary to achieve high-level performance standards while fostering a love of jazz music and ensemble collaboration. Students learn the foundational elements of jazz music, including swing rhythm, syncopation, improvisation, and jazz phrasing. Emphasis is placed on developing a deep understanding of jazz styles and conventions through listening, analysis, and hands-on exploration. Students perform at concerts, festivals, and other community events and finish the course prepared for audition into advanced jazz ensembles.
