Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School – Introduction to Education 1-2

This introductory level CTE course is for 10th-12th grade students who desire to explore education as a career in a course that combines learning from texts and learning from experience. Students will learn about foundational educational philosophies, study teaching strategies, classroom management techniques They will also participate in observations as a classroom assistant 1x per week, beginning in the second quarter, and in the fourth quarter, design and implement a read-aloud or other kind of mini-lesson. Reflection journals and discussions are assigned throughout the year. Exemplary attendance and appropriate school attire required. Students are responsible for transportation to and from school sites is to be by walking, Tri-Met, biking, or with permission from parents by private vehicle.
