This course is paired with AVID 11: HECPS (semester 1) to create a year long AVID course for 11th graders. AVID 11 (semester 2) is the first part of a two-year, four semester program which integrates the new diploma requirements of HECPS (Higher Educaiton and Career Pathways Skills)in 11th grade AVID. In the junior year, students will set learning goals, as well as practice self-advocacy, and time management skills, participate in inquiry-based collaborative study groups, and build on literacy and verbal communication skills. They will prepare for and participate in college entrance and placement exams where applicable, while learning to master study skills and test-taking, note-taking, and research techniques. Students will explore how their personal strengths, aptitudes, interests, and values connect wiht future career paths, and practice self-advocacy. They will understand the diverse range of career pathways and postsecondary opportunities, and be prepared for the workforce. Students will complete a resume and My Plan that includes a detailed postsecondary plan.
