This course conforms to the College Board’s course description for AP English Language and Composition as well as the Georgia Standards of Excellence for American Literature. With the goals of developing critical literacy and facilitating informed citizenship, this course guides students through reading and writing activities aligned to an introductory college-level rhetoric and writing curriculum. Students deepen and expand their understanding of how written language functions rhetorically by reading a variety of texts and writing analytic and argumentative essays that proceed through several stages or drafts. Students evaluate, synthesize, and cite research to support their arguments.

AP Research is the second course in the AP Capstone Diploma Program. In this course, students explore an academic topic, problem, or issue through the design, planning and implementation of a yearlong investigation. Students learn research methodology, employ ethical research practices, and synthesize new findings within a final academic paper and research presentation.

How do your favorite movies and television shows make it to the screen? It all starts with the writers. In this course, students read, view, and analyze a variety of film and television media from a writer’s point of view. Students apply these skills to create and develop dramatic writing for theatrical media with special emphasis on film and television. The Honors course delves into more sophisticated television and film structures and encourages students to write more sophisticated scripts.
