Gwynns Falls Elementary – Fundamentals of Art

This introduction course to art combines a survey of art history and the art making process to formulate projects that incorporate students’ own interests and ideas with the fundamentals of art and art history. The goal of this course is to understand and utilize art and art-making practices as a language of expression. To do so, students will develop strong drawing and painting skills, while also experimenting with a breadth of art-making processes. Students will be exploring their identity, their own critical nature, and their art making potential. Deep thinking, expression, skill development, drive, and critical thought are emphasized in this course. The Course will cover the basic principles of art and will allow students to become familiar with a variety of media.
