Apr 2026 · 2nd Semester
An intensive, upper-level course intended for highly motivated students seriously interested in the study of Art. AP work involves a significantly higher commitment and accomplishment than the typical high school course. A significant amount of time outside of scheduled class time is expected to successfully complete the coursework. AP Studio Art will have guest artist presentations monthly as well as in person access to college admissions counselors from elite art schools. Through this course students will develop mastery in concept, composition, and technical skill. This course will focus on the following: - The development of a portfolio of work for AP submission. - The study of historical and contemporary artists and trends in regard to art history and aesthetics. In addition to researching artists, students are expected to visit galleries and local museums on their own. - Maintaining a sketchbook throughout the year that is composed of visual ideas, notes, doodles, plans, short assignments, quick drawings, and practice of various techniques. - Reflection and critiques are a vital part of the ongoing artistic process. Students will participate in group and individual critiques on their work and the work of their peers. Students will also be asked to reflect and write about their work and art experiences. AP Studio students will produce a breadth of work as well as a personal concentration of work to submit to the AP Art exam.
