In this course, students will learn how to read blueprints, operate a drill press, lathe and a milling machine, as well as learn grinding operations. Within the machine tool field there are also areas which use computer technology for design, production and inspection. With nearly 130 machine shops in the upstate of SC in addition to major corporations such as Michelin, BMW, ZF Transmissions, etc. looking for skilled Machine Tool employees, the opportunities in this field are plentiful. In addition, the demand for CNC milling and turning specialists is extremely high in fields such as medical, robotics, aerospace, automotive, gas turbine, oil refineries, power plants, etc.

Auto Collision Repair will teach students the skills they need to obtain an entry level position in a collision shop, as well as provide a select few that exact opportunity during the second year. The class covers non-structural repair which includes learning to fix dents in sheet metal, plastic, and perform various MIG welds. During the second year, students will learn how to use a Refinishing Gun, apply various finishes to multiple substrates, and maintain those finishes. All students learn shop safety, proper tool use and employability skills.

Automotive Technology is about more than just Auto Mechanics. In this course students will learn to perform routine maintenance on all types of automobiles. Students will receive training in safety, hand tools, engine repair, brakes, electrical, automotive HVAC, and engine performance. Students will learn through a mixture of theory and hands on training. Students will have the opportunity to earn Student ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications in nine categories. Early College Credit through Greenville Technical College may be offered through this program. Employment opportunities include any automotive related shop including dealerships, complete automotive repair facilities, tire repair, etc. This course also prepare students for various industrial and manufacturing careers in the Greenville area.

The Building Construction program is designed to prepare students to perform entry-level carpentry and residential building construction. Building students study house construction from the footing to the roof including basic plumbing, electricity and masonry. Construction materials, blueprint reading, safety, site layout and site preparation are covered. Students also learn safety, use of hand and power tools and applied mathematics. Each student may have the opportunity to acquire a NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) card, an OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 card, and Early College Credit through Greenville Technical College. In addition, students join SkillsUSA and can earn the opportunity to compete statewide and nationally.

In the beauty industry, a cosmetologist is more than just a hairstylist – they are people on the cutting edge of trends and styles in hair and beauty techniques, and they can transform their clients from simple to spectacular in a single sitting. Students who complete 1500 hours, pass both the theory and the practical exam with 75 percent or better score, they will receive their SC State Board of Cosmetology License before graduation.

Prepare yourself for a career in hospitality! Culinary Arts will give you the basic fundamentals needed to be successful in a hospitality career or culinary school. Learn basic food production techniques, food safety and sanitation, and menu and workplace management skills. The prestigious ProStart curriculum is used in this class. Students can become ProStart completers, making them eligible for multiple scholarships as well as the potential to earn multiple ServSafe certifications which are widely recognized in this field. Early College Credit through Greenville Technical College may be offered through this program.

The Diesel Technology program provides a broad foundation in the diesel repair field by preparing students for entry level positions in the field of heavy duty diesel vehicle repair. Students gain skills in engine repair, fuel supply and management, suspension and brakes, hydraulic systems operation, and lighting and instrumentation.

This course covers computer skills using the Adobe Suite software to learn layout design, digital illustration and photo manipulation. Students also get hands-on experience with photography, screen printing, 3D printing and motion graphics, including 2D animation and video editing. The Digital Art and Design program prepares students for careers in the graphic design field. Skills may be applied in any media, such as print, digital media, product design, packaging, etc. Most of the standards require students to combine text and graphics to communicate an effective message in the format intended for commercial reproduction. Students are also expected to use industry software and design concepts, principles, and processes to manipulate text and graphics, utilize and output appropriate file formats for Web and print, and meet client expectations.

This new program at Golden Strip is available to 12th Grade students only from any Greenville County High School! At the completion of the program the students will be eligible to take both the practical and cognitive exams to become Nationally Certified EMTs. This national exam is administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Once the student becomes nationally certified they are then eligible to be approved by DHEC to become South Carolina state certified EMTs. Students are then eligible to enter the EMS workforce.

Firefighting is a high energy, high impact course that covers everything from first aid to victim rescue and property conservation in the community as a firefighting professional. The main focus is the fundamentals of firefighting and the science of fire. Students may earn IFSAC Firefighter 1 & 2 certification after successful completion of tests given during the 2 year program. Other certifications may include NIMS-ICS 100, 200, 700, 800, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations.

Students learn electrical fundamentals from wiring a simple switch to wiring an air conditioning, heating and refrigeration system. In lab they will learn how to solder and braze copper, recover/leak test/vacuum/charge refrigeration systems, read blueprints and wiring diagrams. Students will find out how to use their senses while developing skills required for the installation, service and maintenance of HVAC/R systems. Through a mixture of theory and hands on, the students will be able to earn multiple certifications and college credits including EPA Section 608 (Refrigerant Handling), OSHA 10 Hour Safety, R410A Refrigerant Safety, Gastite Piping, Industry Competency Exam (ICE). Mechatronics is a new interdisciplinary field involving electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, electronics, robotics/automation, computer components, and control systems. The program prepares students who enjoy working with their hands as well as understanding simple to complex systems. Mechatronics is a dynamic field that changes daily with the rapid improvements in technology and computer systems. Systems are networked to meet the demands of automated manufacturing processes, and technicians are trained to meet necessary entry-level industrial skills and entry into a postsecondary program at a technical college.
