Fossil Ridge High School – Concert Band
Apr 2026 · 2nd Semester
At FRHS: The Concert Band course (Concert Band) is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion students with the ability to perform level IV/V music. Incoming freshman students who wish to participate in high school band, but do not want to audition, will enroll in the “2800 Concert Band” course. Students who are new to band may need supplementary instruction via private lessons on their instrument to get caught up to the high school proficiency level. Concert Band students will study music theory, history, composition, and will perform wind band literature of high artistic merit. Students are required to attend all scheduled events that occur outside of the regular school day, including but not limited to rehearsals, concerts, pep band events, and other performances. Band is a year-long commitment at FRHS and students are required to enroll in a band class during both Fall and Spring semesters each school year. Concert Band will focus primarily on marching band-related skills during Quarter 1, and it is highly encouraged for students to also participate in the extracurricular FRHS Marching Band. Concert Band students are highly encouraged to take private lessons on their instrument. The Instrumental Fundamentals Class is designed to teach fundamental skills to woodwind, brass, and percussion players. Tone technical facility music terminology and music reading are stressed. Literature appropriate to beginner skill level is presented. Performance opportunities begin. At FRHS: The Symphonic Band course (called Symphonic Band) is comprised of woodwind and percussion students with the ability to perform level V/VI music. Membership is by audition only - students who are placed into Symphonic Band and play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument should enroll in the “2805 Symphonic Band” course.
