Fiction is a reflection of the society in which it is written, giving a snapshot of the norms, values, and vices of a culture and time period. This course will read modern novels written about the culture students are living, making it relatable and inspiring. Students will be given the opportunity to develop critical reading skills through additional reading experiences. Students will explore thematic elements, various styles, and plot devices of short stories and novels.

This course will examine the literature, history, and culture of Europe from 310 C.E. to 1400 C.E.  Students will investigate topics, themes, & trends both historically & through reading selections.  Specific topics includesub-Roman & post-Roman Kingdoms (The Saxons & the Franks), intrusions from the fringes of Europe (Vikings & Islam), the evolution of feudalism, chivalry, & the Church, the Normans & the Crusades, and daily life in Medieval Europe.

The course will give students an understanding of the complex relationship between American culture and commercial films of the 20th and 21st centuries.  Students will also gain a working knowledge of the intricate elements of film as an art, both in terms of analysis and application.

Anatomy and Physiology is a laboratory science course that includes an in-depth study of the body systems that maintain homeostasis from anatomical, physiological, and histological perspectives. Regular exploration of the human body through lab investigations, models, diagrams, and comparative studies of the anatomy of other organisms will be pursued throughout the semester. Students will be required to dissect in this class. It is not optional.
