This class challenges students to develop their creative voices while mastering the technical and aesthetic aspects of professional video production. This course emphasizes visual storytelling, audience engagement, and the strategic use of media to inform, entertain, and influence. Students will work individually and collaboratively on real-world projects that mirror industry expectations, fostering essential skills in project management, professional collaboration, and critical thinking. Key areas of study include: - Advanced Cinematography: In-depth camera operation, shot composition, lighting techniques (e.g., three-point and specialized lighting setups), and camera movement. - Pre-Production & Directing: Scriptwriting from treatment to final script, storyboarding, scheduling, budgeting, casting, and directing on set. - Post-Production & Effects: Non-linear editing using industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects), color correction/grading, and the integration of motion graphics and special effects. - Journalism & Broadcasting: Newsgathering, on-camera interviewing, producing live studio shows (e.g., the school news program), and operating a studio control room. The course culminates in the creation of a professional-quality digital portfolio and demo reel, demonstrating readiness for post-secondary education, internships, or entry-level employment in the media and communication fields. Potential Industry Certifications: Students may have the opportunity to earn industry certifications such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
