Estimated homework expectations: Up to one hour per class This beginning course will introduce students to Chinese and focus on listening, speaking, and reading abilities through classroom activities, conversation, reading, story writing, role playing, singing, calligraphy, games, etc. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills to begin communicating in Mandarin Chinese. Students will also be introduced to Chinese culture through media presentations and discussions. Students will develop basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills around twelve themes. 12 Chinese culture points will be introduced. Students will be able to recognize about 150 Chinese words in character form.
