Erie High School – Coaching & Officiating

Students enrolled in the Team Sport Officiating course will learn rules and regulations of selected team sports, developing skills in the area of communication, decision-making, and conflict management, which are needed to officiate team sport competitions. They will work with coaches, players, other officials, and parents. The expectation is that students will have the ability to officiate at various levels and manage responsibilities that come with the role. Students will develop a personal fitness and injury prevention plan that directly relates to the needs of an official. Students will understand and apply time management skills required and recognize legal rights and responsibilities of an official involved with youth sports in the 21st century. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and basic first aid skills will be taught in class. Students will be certified in CPR/AED first aid and receive an officiating certificates upon successful completion of course. | | | --- | | 2.0 credits (4 semester-long classes) of Physical Education are a graduation requirement. <br>Students can waive up to 2 semester classes (are exempt from taking 2 classes) but are still required to take 2 more PE classes and successfully complete 24.5 credits in order to earn their high school diploma.<br>P.E. WAIVER<br>SVVSD provides the opportunity for students who maintain full-time student status during all four years of high school and meet all other graduation requirements to waive a .5 physical education credit by successfully completing one of the following criteria, for participation in: <br>- One (1) St. Vrain Valley School District athletic program at the high school level; or<br>- 72 hours during an 18-week period of an appropriate, pre-approved, structured, and supervised physical activity outside of the school district (time log required).<br>Successfully completing two different sports, the same sport for two seasons, or a combination of the above criteria will allow students to waive a maximum of 1.0 physical education credit, in other words, the student is exempt from taking 2 of the 4 required PE classes.<br>The activities to waive physical education credit may be metduring a student’s four years of high school: August of 9th grade through May of 12th grade. Students are still required to take 2 PE courses and to successfully complete 24.5 credits in order to earn their high school diploma<br>The physical education waiver application is available in the counseling office. At the end of the sports season, when the waiver requirements have been met, the student will submit the application and time log to their Counselor or the Registrar (including all required signatures: student, parent, counselor, outside Coach/Trainer, Athletic Director & Principal) for verification and approval.<br>Additional information on applying for and receiving approval of a physical education credit waiver can be found in district policy, IKF-R, Graduation Requirements-Physical Education Waiver. |
