Fine Art Elective AP Exam Fee The AP Music Theory course corresponds to one-to-two semesters of typical, introductory college music theory coursework that covers topics such as musicianship, theory, and musical materials and procedures. Musicianship skills, including dictation and listening skills, sight singing, and harmony, are an important part of the course. Through the course, students develop the ability to recognize, understand, and describe basic materials and processes of tonal music that are heard or presented in a score. The development of aural (listening) skills is a primary objective. Performance is also part of the curriculum through the practice of sight-singing. Students learn basic concepts and terminology by listening to and performing a wide variety of music. Notational skills, speed, and fluency with basic materials are emphasized. It is designed to be the equivalent of a general entry-level college art course. In addition to the portfolio examination, students will be expected to create artwork outside class time, participate in critiques and discussions, complete daily exercises to advance skills, maintain a sketchbook and prepare their work for showings. To obtain college credit, students will prepare and submit an essay and portfolio that will be concentrated on three sections: Quality, Breadth and Concentration. A5120A & 5210B AP Art 3D Design A (this is a year long class) Grades 11-12 2 semesters/1.0 credit Fine Art Elective AP Fee Required Estimated homework: Up to 45 minutes per class This course is recommended for students who excel in various three-dimensional art techniques and media and is designed to be the equivalent of a general entry-level college art course. Students who take this course should have a high level of motivation, diligence, commitment and independence. In addition to the portfolio examination, students will be expected to create artwork outside class time, participate in critiques and discussions, complete daily exercises to advance skills, maintain a sketchbook and prepare their work for showings. Students will be encouraged to develop a personal direction or “voice” in their work. To obtain college credit, students will prepare and submit an essay and portfolio that will concentrate on three sections: Quality, Breadth and Concentration. This essay and portfolio are due in the Spring. A5310A & 5310B AP Art History Grades 10-12 1 semester/.5 credit Fine Art Elective AP Fee Required Estimated homework: Up to 45 minutes per class The AP Art History course is equivalent to a two-semester college survey course exploring the nature of art, art making, and responses to art. By investigating specific course content of 250 works of art characterized by diverse artistic traditions from prehistory to the present, students develop in-depth, holistic understanding of the history of art from a global perspective. Students become active participants in the global art world, engaging with its forms and content. They experience, research, discuss, read, and write about art, artists, art making, responses to, and interpretations of art. While you will earn a fine art elective credit for this class, this is an Art History class. This is not a traditional art class, the ability to draw/paint is not a requirement to be successful. Foreign Language Advanced Placement Courses AP French Language and Culture (this is a year long class) Grades 11-12 2 semesters/1.0 credit AP Fee Required This is an AGILE course Estimated homework time is one hour for every one hour of class time. AP French Language and Culture is equivalent to an intermediate-level college course in French. Students cultivate their understanding of the French language and culture by applying interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication in real-life situations as they explore concepts related to family and community, personal and public identity, beauty and aesthetics, science and technology, contemporary life, and global challenges.
