Erie High School – Intro to Media & Journalism

Estimated homework time: Up to 15 minutes per class. This project-based course introduces students to the fundamentals of video storytelling and media production, with no prior experience required. Students will acquire both technical skills and creative competencies by working through the three phases of video production: pre-production, production, and post-production. Throughout the course, students will work individually and in teams to create a variety of projects, such as public service announcements (PSAs), commercials, music videos, and news reports. An emphasis is placed on developing transferable skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and effective communication. Students will also analyze and critique various forms of media to understand the historical context, ethical considerations (such as copyright law), and societal impact of film and television, preparing them for future career opportunities in creative industries.
