Eastlake High School – Current Events & American Politics

This course focuses on civic engagement and is designed to prepare students for their life and experience as a participant in American society. In this course, students will analyze the complex structures, foundations, and applications of American democracy; including federal, state, and tribal government structures. Â Students will apply their knowledge of democracy to current events, global relationships, and historic injustice to better understand their role and constitutional rights as informed Americans. Students will also examine electoral issues, structures, and processes throughout the semester. Close reading, civil discussion, and analytical writing skills are essential skills that will be developed over the course of the semester. Students will be asked to challenge current American ideologies to rethink the current structures of our society.
