Introduction to Horticulture introduces students to the Horticulture pathway. It is required as a prerequisite for all other horticulture courses. This course includes organized subject matter and practical experiences related to the culture of plants used principally for ornamental or aesthetic purposes. Instruction emphasizes knowledge and understanding of the importance of establishing, maintaining, and managing ornamental horticulture enterprises. Typical instruction includes hands-on propagation of plants, assessment of environmental growth and issues, relevant school-to-work experience, and participation in FFA activities. Students should be prepared to participate in daily outdoor activities at the greenhouse and on the rooftop garden, utilizing common horticulture tools such as shovels, spades, hoes, rakes, and shears.

Prerequisites: Earth Science or Biology (concurrent)
