Medical terminology develops a working knowledge of the language of health professions. Students acquire word-building skills by learning prefixes, suffixes, roots, combining forms, and abbreviations. Utilizing a body systems approach, students will define, interpret, and pronounce medical terms relating to structure and function, pathology, diagnosis, clinical procedures, and pharmacology. Students will use problem-solving techniques to assist in developing an understanding of course concepts. In addition to traditional classroom instruction, Medical Terminology may be offered as a dual enrollment, virtual, online, or independent study course. Pharmacology for Medical Careers (557000CH - Half Credit) Pharmacology for Medical Careers/Pharmacy Technology introduces students to various pharmacy careers and the benefits of applying pharmacology, math, and science standards within this course. Teachers are encouraged to arrange student work-based learning opportunities in pharmacies for practical experience. Upon completing this program, students may sit for the national exam to become nationally certified pharmacy technicians. The cost of the program is usually around $300 per student. We have two programs listed that offer the training: PassAssured and Kaduceus. The program prepares students to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) examination or the examination provided by the National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT). college. Students should check with all colleges to which they intend to apply to ensure that they will meet the entrance requirements.
