duPont Manual High – Exploring Theatre for Musical Theatre Majors

This course is an introductory course designed to increase student’s understanding, appreciation, and critical analysis of theatre. Course content is based on the idea that a well-rounded knowledge of theatre—whether as an active participant in a production or as an audience member– is a significant means of enriching an individual’s life. Course activities center on (1) developing performance skills through improvisation and scene study, (2) understanding theatre in context through studying theatre history, and (3) literary analysis through reading and writing about multiple plays. There is a performance component to this course and active involvement in class projects is required. Students will be asked to push their comfort zones and participate as an actor, directors, designer and/or playwright.
Prerequisites: Admission to the Musical Theatre Program
