duPont Manual High – Music Theory I

This course introduces the study of basic music theory and traditional harmony that the students studied will need in order to advance to AP Music Theory II. In addition, students learn to use the concepts and techniques of the composers from the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries in their own compositions. Students will also study sight singing, harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic dictation, and they will learn basic fundamentals at the piano. This course is designed to meet the needs of the serious high school musician who will want to continue his musical career at the college level. The students will receive instruction in four related areas including: written harmony, keyboard harmony, sight singing, and ear training.
