This course develops students’ body awareness, physical fitness, and personal expression through a rigorous, technique-driven dance curriculum that challenges students physically in every class. Emphasizing proper body alignment, aesthetic lines, dynamic movement, and performance quality, students study a wide range of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, folk, African dance and culture, rhythmic and theatrical forms, aerobics and conditioning, dance composition and improvisation, as well as vocalization, musicality, and character work rooted in American Musical Theatre. Students also gain historical and cultural perspectives through dance history and exposure to the choreographic styles of influential masters fostering an understanding of the interconnectedness of music, art, choreography, and theatre. Fulfills the required physical education credit for graduation.
Prerequisites: Musical Theatre Majors, audition
