duPont Manual High – Photojournalism 1
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
This course develops students’ photojournalism skills using interchangeable-lens cameras, with an emphasis on composition and technical control of shutter speed, ISO, and aperture. Working with a range of lenses, students photograph sports, news, feature, and portrait assignments. Students are required to photograph events outside of class; published work may appear in the yearbook or Manual RedEye. Second-year students focus on independent projects. Access to an interchangeable-lens camera comparable to or better than a Canon R50 or Canon Rebel is helpful but not required. Instructor approval is required for Photojournalism 2. Photojournalism 1 (not 2) may fulfill one J&C skill-building credit and is required for photographers on some magnet publications. Priority is given to J&C students with staff positions; non-magnet students are admitted as space allows.
