duPont Manual High – Mass Media Studies

This course for incoming Journalism & Communication (J&C) students builds foundational creative, technical, and ethical skills for media production and works alongside Journalism 1 to form the core of the freshman J&C experience. Grounded in media ethics and media epistemology, students examine how media constructs meaning and knowledge. They study the evolution of media, analyze the role of news and journalism, and learn the basics of journalistic forms of writing. Students also learn videography and page layout fundamentals to support visual storytelling, gain proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, and collaborate on projects that emphasize responsible and ethical media engagement.
Prerequisites: Admission to J&C and concurrent enrollment in Journalism 1
