duPont Manual High – Journalism I
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
Journalism 1 introduces students to the foundations and practice of modern journalism. In coordination with the Mass Media Studies course, students examine how information moves through society, the role and influence of news media, and the ethical and legal responsibilities of journalists. The course emphasizes media literacy, credibility, and critical analysis of historical and contemporary media. In addition to reporting concepts, students learn foundational skills in photography and graphic design, including composition, color, typography, and visual storytelling. Using industry-standard tools such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, students create projects that integrate written and visual communication across multiple platforms. This course builds core communication, design, and critical-thinking skills essential for future J&C magnet coursework.
