This course follows the NCSCOS for grade 9 and requires students to demonstrate proficiency for standards of reading literature, reading informational text, writing, speaking and listening, and language. Students read from a wide range of high-quality, increasingly challenging texts and learn how to support arguments and convey experiences in writing.

Provides challenging reading, writing and speaking opportunities as preparation for education beyond high school. Follows NCSCOS for grade 9 with expanded instruction, advanced reading lists, and independent projects.

Follows the NCSCOS for grade 10. Requires proficiency in reading literature, informational text, writing, and language. Includes global perspectives and complex texts to prepare for college and careers.

Follows the NCSCOS for grade 12. Completes the global perspective initiated in English I. Provides application of all communication skills.

Aligns to an introductory college-level rhetoric and writing curriculum. Focuses on evidence-based analytic and argumentative writing and rhetorical analysis of nonfiction texts.

Aligns to an introductory college-level literature and writing curriculum. Focuses on reading, analyzing, and writing about imaginative literature (fiction, poetry, drama) from various periods.

Focuses on competitive public speaking and debate skills. Students participate in forensics tournaments and develop techniques in diction, articulation, and projection.

Further develops communication, logic, and reasoning through scholastic forensics competitions. Students specialize in speaking events and compete at state tournaments.
