AP Music Theory is designed for students who will pursue music as a career or desire to further enrich their music education. The main emphasis is placed on elements of music from the Common Practice period (1600-1750), however music of other stylistic periods will also be studied (Medieval, Renaissance, Romantic, 20th Century, and modern music). The focus of this course is to prepare students to take the AP Music Theory exam and/or similar coursework at the collegiate level. Students desiring to take this course must demonstrate readiness with aural skills and written knowledge. This readiness can be validated by successful completion of the Music Theory I course or through a minimum of $8 5 %$ mastery of an examination for Music Theory AP readiness. The campus may also require ensemble experience and/or membership. Principles of Health may substitute The goal of Health I is to provide instruction that allows students to develop and sustain health-promoting behaviors throughout their lives. Students will learn the ability to gather, interpret, and understand health information, achieve health literacy, and adapt to the ever-changing science of health. Essential skills practiced during the course include decision-making, problem-solving, goal-setting, maintaining healthy relationships with self and others, seeking help and support, and recognizing various influences on health such as social, environmental, media, and genetics. Topics include physical health and hygiene; mental health and wellness; healthy eating and physical activity; injury and violence prevention and safety; alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; reproductive and sexual health; child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and human trafficking.
