Conroe High SchoolChinese II

Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester

Chinese II is a continuation of the development of the three modes of communication. Students will require more time to achieve proficiency, especially in reading and writing. Initially, the skill focus should be placed on speaking and listening without ignoring reading and writing in the target language’s writing system. As the students become more proficient, a balanced emphasis of all four skills becomes more attainable. Students will continue to learn about familiar topics of interest necessary to communicate in everyday, realistic situations. They will also deepen their understanding and appreciation of the culture and civilization of the Chinese-speaking world. Culturally authentic texts and materials will be included in everyday contexts. By the end of the second year, students should be able to understand and communicate in the target language at a novice high to intermediate low level. Novice high speakers are able to use simple sentences and ask/answer questions about familiar topics. Intermediate low speakers are able to begin creating original sentences with the language.
