Cleveland High School – Journalism 1-2
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
Welcome to the world of journalism! In this introductory course, students will focus primarily on the art of telling stories through writing. You will learn and practice how to write news, features and commentaries among other genres, as well as learn how to become a better editor and interviewer. You will also learn about publishing and how to design and edit layouts using software from the Adobe Creative Suite in our lab. Students will also learn and practice storytelling via videography, photography and podcasting. Another point of emphasis is on discussing the media: the trends, new laws, and their impacts on culture and society. Finally, you will learn about your rights as a student journalist and the laws that govern them. Student work is compiled in an e-portfolio for future use. Successful students are encouraged to join the staff of the school’s newspaper or yearbook. Even though you might not choose to join a school publication, the class will help you become a better writer, critical thinker, interviewer and storyteller. Suggested Donation: $30
