Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester

This is a 2-year, inquiry-driven, studio-based program in which students explore visual arts to investigate personal themes, develop a unique artistic voice, and as a way to understand the world. Through both structured and independent learning in a studio environment, technical skills in several mediums will be developed. Students are expected to be able to make connections between culture, history and socio-economic factors, analyze art, and to have basic studio skills. Beyond creating the required portfolio studio work, students will also be expected to participate in art critiques, group discussions, and teacher/student meetings. At the end of the 2-year course, students will submit Resolved Artworks, an Inquiry Portfolio, and either a Connections Study (SL) or an Artist Project (HL). These three content areas comprise the IB Portfolio 'Exam'. It is highly encouraged that students have basic artmaking materials at home so they can work on projects outside of class. This course meets the requirements for Fine Arts, and in the 2nd year only, it may also fulfill 2 semesters of CTE.

Prerequisites: Visual Arts course (could also be Photography or Ceramics) or portfolio review and teacher permission

Grades: 11, 12
