Chief Sealth International High School – Šǝqačib

Šǝqačib is offered through the Title VI; Huchoosedah Indian Education Program of Seattle Public Schools. Working in cooperation with both Chief Sealth International High School and Denny International Middle School, scholars are provided a welcoming, academically focused environment where identity safety and academic progress are fostered. Šǝqačib offers cultural enrichment activities/presentations, academic tutoring and access to resources through community services offered by Alaskan Native/Native American agencies as well as Seattle Public Schools. The focus of the class is to promote school engagement and academic progress in a culturally sensitive environment. The elective course is offered five periods a day for a .50 credit and is taught by a teacher and supported with an Instructional Assistant to work with students to ensure academic success. Students receive small group instruction, one on one support and direct class instruction. In order to earn an A in this course, scholars are expected to attend and work on classwork daily, maintain a record of their assignments /progress and complete assignments as assigned. Students may take this course as many times as needed and as their schedule accommodates.
