They also learn how to use conditional probability to determine the likelihood of a particular sample occurring given it came from a specific population, leading to the process of a hypothesis test. Students extend these two skills (creating confidence intervals and conducting hypothesis tests) to make inferences about the mean of a population using the t-distribution. They also learn how to compare samples from two different populations using normal and t-distributions. Students make inferences about categorical data in multiple categories using the chi-square distribution.
