This Advanced Placement course is intended to address a very broad interpretation of two-dimensional (2-D) design issues. This type of design involves purposeful decision-making about how to use the elements and principles of art in an integrative way. It is for the advanced student who wishes to seek AP credit through submitting a Portfolio of work for consideration by the College Board. The content includes advanced study of the elements of design (line, shape, illusion of space, texture, value and color); advanced study of the principles of design including unity/variety, balance, emphasis, rhythm, proportion/scale and repetition; development of proficiency in a variety of 2-D forms including but not limited to graphic design, typography, digital imaging, photography, collage, fabric weaving, illustration, painting, and printmaking; advanced study of approaches to representation, abstraction, and expression; development of rationale and criteria for inclusion of works of art in an Advanced Placement Portfolio. NOTE: The course is designed for advanced students who wish to submit a 2-D Portfolio for consideration of Advanced Placement credit.
