Ballou STAY High School – Barbering

The program of Barbering is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, theory, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the barber industry. The Program provides both a simulated and real environment that enables students to develop manipulative and technical skills. Coursework includes instruction in all phases of professional barbering: history, disinfection, sanitation and safety; haircutting, shaving, mock chemical process, facial treatments, blade theory, related Sciences, such as Anatomy and Physiology, Bacteriology and Electricity, and Business Principles and other required topics. Course subjects include: The History of Barbering-Styling, Your Professional Image, Bacteriology, Sterilization, Sanitation, and Safe Work Practice, Implementation, Tools, and Equipment, Properties and Disorders of the Skin, Scalp, and Hair, Facial Massage and Treatment, Hair cutting, Treatment of Hair Scalp, Shaving, Mustache and Beard, Mock/Demo Chemical Processing, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Men's Hairpieces, Electricity and Light Therapy, The Job Search, Selling in the Barber-Style Shop, Barber-Style Shop Management, Licensing Laws. Students must complete 1500 requirement hours.
