Ninth Grade English Language Arts focuses on comprehension and composition of informational, literary and persuasive texts. This course exposes students to a variety of texts from American and world cultures. Students read novels, short stories, plays, essays, poems and nonfiction. Students write in a variety of styles with a focus on structure, vocabulary and writing mechanics. Students will use technical skills to read/write/present various professional documents and develop critical thinking skills.

Students write in a variety of styles with a focus on structure, vocabulary, and writing mechanics.

This course is designed to stretch the student intellectually and philosophically. Students will read various pieces of literature that teach us about our nation's history, both in fiction and in non-fiction. Students will discuss power struggles, ethical choices, elements of survival, and human nature. Students read novels, news articles, speeches, poems, and short stories, and further develop written and oral communication.

This course offers an overview of concepts, styles, and philosophies with major writers of the world, ranging from Classical Greek drama to modern European writing. In addition, more practice will be given in narrative, expository, and persuasive writing.

This course helps seniors gather and develop information for life after high school. Students plan for admission to college or trade schools, learn about the application process and funding (FAFSA, scholarships), and prepare for the workforce by developing resumes, cover letters, and interview techniques. Students prepare a final portfolio as a reference.

Math 1 is the first course in the college preparatory math sequence. It is a study of real numbers and their properties, linear and exponential functions; equations and expressions; statistics; transformations and congruence. This course is aligned with Common Core state standards.

Math 2 is the second course in the college preparatory math sequence. It is a study of quadratic expressions, equations, and functions; comparing their characteristics and behavior to those of linear and exponential relationships from Math 1. This course is aligned with Common Core state standards.

This course is a math elective and is the IVC 353/253 course. Students will earn high school math credit as well as credit at Irvine Valley College (IVC) for successful completion.

A two-semester course where students learn to use mathematics effectively as a tool in their personal and business lives. Students apply mathematical operations with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, ratios, and percent to various scenarios. They use common mathematical formulas and knowledge of computer/calculator use to solve business applications.

This College Prep course reinforces and broadens the student's knowledge of World History from the birth of democratic ideas in Greece and Rome through the Cold War era. Content includes the Renaissance, Reformation, Enlightenment, various Revolutions (American, French, Industrial), imperialism, World War I, and World War II.

A survey course of major themes in early American history beginning with the establishment of the United States and the Civil War through the Roaring Twenties. The second semester focuses on the Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War to the 21st Century. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and historical evidence.

Introduces students to the unique relationship between people, their leaders, and expenditures. The course examines economic and governmental systems on micro and macro scales, focusing on choices related to finance, quality of life, and success. Personal financial literacy is integrated into each unit.
