Previously, I had attended the Colorado School of Mines earning a bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics. I aspire to become a professor of Buddhist philosophy integrating contemplative studies with rigorous scientific and formal logics. Since graduation I have worked as a structural engineer, designing hospitals, health care facilities, bridges, dams, and other structures. I have experience tutoring undergraduate students in many subjects related to math and engineering. I have a hug passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and believe STEM allows us to understand this ever-changing and increasing complex world. STEM allows us to solve and understand complex and interesting problems. I have had the pleasure of working with engineers without borders, a nonprofit organization that travels and works with global communities to provide engineering solutions for basic needs such as clean drinking water. My main goal is to help students understand and love the world of STEM. I have grown to treat every day as an opportunity to improve himself and those around me. Outside of my work as an engineer and tutor you can find me climbing rocks, camping, snowboarding, mountain biking or practicing yoga. I provide a relaxed environment to help students learn, grow and feel comfortable asking questions.

I have been a Colorado licensed elementary teacher for eleven years. Teaching all subjects makes me uniquely qualified to work with children in all subject areas. I have mainly taught intermediate elementary students. I am also skilled in helping students develop organizational and study skills that help to prepare them for middle school. My original Bachelor's degree is in Political Science. Next, I obtained my teaching license and a few years later I earned my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught English Language Learners, educationally challenged students, and gifted students. I have been recognized by Denver Public Schools for the high growth of my students. I believe that all children can learn if the teacher uses whatever is necessary to get the information to the child in a way that they can understand it.I am originally from the Midwest but have lived in Colorado for many years now. I love the mountains and hike often. I also enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, and traveling. I'm sure that I can help your child reach their academic potential.

School, homework, learning; these don't have to be yucky words. That stuff can be fun, learning is supposed to be an interesting activity, and I make sure that it is. Before receiving my B.A. in Asian Languages and Literature from the University of Minnesota, I studied abroad for a year in China. There, I also worked as the lead teacher in a new ESL school for adults where I provided lesson plans for the school and utilized my own classroom format to engage the students. I also tutored several young Chinese girls in English where we learned by translating their favorite Taylor Swift songs and watching Justin Bieber on Oprah. I don't believe education should be dull or limited to pencil and paper, and I work hard with my students to find the best way to optimize learning.I am an avid long distance runner and podcast listener. I'm nuts about traveling and hiking and have lived in San Francisco and Alaska within the last year. But mostly, I love learning. Until graduating I had no idea that it was so awesome, and so essential to sanity and happiness. What's even better is when one is allowed to learn in their own way, so that it's not a chore, but a fun pastime.

I spent 3 years tutoring various levels of Math in college all the way up to Multi-variable Calculus and Linear Algebra. I also tutored a few local high school students while I was in college. In high school, I completed AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics (I got a 5 and a 4 respectively). Additionally, I received a near perfect score on the Math section of my SATs. I have always loved tutoring and helping my students discover that they can be great at Math!
