I believe that every person has the ability to succeed. They just need the opportunity and support to do so. I hope that with my support and the utilization of clients' personal interests and skills we can work together to be successful. As Einstein says "Everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."

Algebra Tutor • +26 Subjects
I love helping kids to understand and appreciate the applications of math. I volunteered as a mentor with middle school students while attending the College of William & Mary, where I received a BS in Mathematics. After college, I worked as a tutor at a public high school, teaching algebra and geometry. More recently, I received an MS in Statistics from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I tutored undergraduate students as a teaching assistant. I believe that tutoring works best if the tutor and student work together to figure out how to best help the student learn. My goal is to help the student become independent and empowered in their education. I am available for in person and online tutoring.

I attained an Associate's Degree from Virginia Western Community College where I tutored students of various ages, including older adults. I continued my education and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia (UVA).I've always enjoyed math and science subjects and helping others understand concepts. With math, there's usually only one right answer and yet numerous ways to arrive there. This is also my philosophy with tutoring since all students want to do well in their courses but there are so many ways to accomplish that. Everyone is different which is what makes this world so interesting!

I've always liked to travel and to know people from different countries. I've always felt that we are all alike, in spite of our "differences". I have friends from around the world, from travelling and from my jobs in international departments of publishing companies, which is where I have worked for over 20 years. I lived in England for 10 years and loved living in Europe, where I was able to reach so many different countries. I majored in French in college, starting to learn it at the age of 10 years. I became a big fan of French history, literature, films, food and people. I've taught ESL for about 6 years, to people from different countries and I love to help my students learn to use a tool that will help them in their work, studies, and lives and will make a big difference to their happiness!I love cooking, growing plants and vegetables, listening to vintage rock music, cooking new recipes, seeing films, going to concerts of classical music and rock music, and singing.

AP Japanese Language and Culture Tutor • +5 Subjects
My experience in tutoring and teaching others started as far back as when I was in elementary school with Japanese, as I was already fluent in the language I would help out my peers and even younger students in simple things like reading and writing. Come middle school I was assigned as the Japanese tutor and helped various students of different backgrounds after school, and even aided the teacher during class. I completed the high school Japanese curriculum, Japanese 1-4 and the AP Test, and moved on to being a teacher's assistant, continuously tutoring and helping the teacher during class. I even managed to coach the school's first team to compete in the National Japan Bowl Tournament. I also credit a Japanese Camp that I participate in during the summer, for in the past 5+ years of being a counselor there I have learned even more about teaching and engaging students and kids in learning about the Japanese culture, and language. (The camp is conducted solely in Japanese, but is not limited to those with a Japanese background, or language knowledge, although recommended.)Aside from Japanese, I also helped out my classmates through the Peer Tutoring program at my school in Biology, Psychology and SAT prep, as I was deeply interested in those subjects, and previous teaching experience helped enormously. Now in college, I am the president of 2 very different student organization on campus. One of those, Japanese Student Association (which is not limited to those who are Japanese), not only conducts meetings to spread the Japanese Culture but also conducts Japanese lessons for our members. Because our school does not provide Japanese as a choice of foreign language, to some this is their only way of learning Japanese.I am a strong believer of taking up any opportunity given, for you can always learn something from new experiences. I was, and am continuously involved in extracurricular activities, and continue to try to meet new people from different types of backgrounds. I've traveled to countries that I don't speak the native language, and only loved every second of it. Through my different experiences I've learned how to be flexible and open-minded, and only want to do the best I can with everything I do.I hope to work with you in the near future!
