Hi, my name is Amanda. I am a current college student at the University of Utah. I am debating between majors right now, but I am looking into either Linguistics with an emphasis in Speech Pathology, or Architecture and Structural Engineering. I started school majoring in Metallurgical Engineering, which was fascinating because I love math and science, but I decided is not for me. In the meantime I am working on my minor in Classical Civilizations. I know that is a little all over the place, but I have interest in all realms of school and study.I graduated high school with Top Scholar, multiple academic letters, a Math and Science cord, and as a part of the National Honors Society. Currently, I am in the National Society of Leadership and Success through the University and am on the Dean's List for outstanding grades for the 5th semester in a row. I am patient and good with kids. I am able to approach a problem from multiple directions so I am able to adapt and discover multiple learning styles. I have been known throughout a good majority of my classes as helping and tutoring my fellow students. I do have a wide array of interests so I have great knowledge in multiple academic fields. For fun I love singing, reading, drawing, learning, and helping others.I would love to help you and see what we can learn together!

I was born in New York, NY, and grew up in northern New Jersey attending the local public school system and the Japanese Weekend School of New Jersey. After completing two high school diplomas, I pursued a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology at New York University and worked in New York, NY for six years in private industry. I returned to higher education, moving to Boston where I conducted research, taught, and studied Clinical Psychology. After completing a Master of Liberal Arts in Clinical Psychology at Harvard University, I moved to Salt Lake City, UT to pursue a PhD in Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology). I am proficient in SPSS, Stata, APA formatting, and research methods for the behavioral sciences. I have limited exposure and experience with R and MATLAB.

Teaching for over 30 years, I have taught children from K-12th grade. The younger students are a joy to work with. Graduating from University of Wyoming, I received a Bachelor degree in both Elementary and Special Education. Working with students to be successful has been a passion for my teaching year. I had an opportunity to teach online for Utah Virtual Academy and also taught Korean children online, the proper usage of the English language. Throughout my years of teaching I have taught in Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Hawaii. My favorite I enjoy teaching is Language Arts at the Elementary level, Middle School level and High School level. Math is another plus at the elementary level and Middle school level. When I'm not teaching I enjoy working and researching Family History, writing children's stories and traveling with my sisters.

I am currently pursuing a double major at Brigham Young University in International Relations(with an emphasis in Eco-political development) and Portuguese.I tutor History, ACT Prep, and Portuguese.I love to teach and find it fun to learn, my approach as a tutor is help students love learning through developing an encompassing view-perspective- on their subjects. Or in other words by turning a list of things to memorize into a captivating story.I love Basketball and the arts, particularly movies, music and Literature.

I love everything about them, even the smell of a new book. So anything pertaining to the study of reading, writing, analyzing literature, preparing for a test that includes reading and writing, or others along these lines, I enjoy tutoring. I am a good writer and enjoy finding the words for descriptions or feelings or events. I'm a good speller. Words are important. They are one of our most important means of communication. Part of getting along well in life involves being able to communicate. To me, learning is great fun! I have dual BA degrees in History and Political Science with honors, and I am a law student at the Washington University School of Law, which is ranked the #16th best law school in the U.S. I am also an independent editor and writing tutor for the University of Utah's Graduate Writing Center. I founded the University of Utah Prison Education Project, where I served as a TA and tutor in courses from Anthropology and History to Writing and college-level Mathematics. I received a 5 on AP Calculus, AP US History, AP USGovernment, AP English Literature, and AP English Writing and Composition. I also serve as an educational mentor with the Vine Institute, a program that offers educational courses to refugees from across the world. Since January 2014 I have worked in the physics help lab at BYU. Throughout this time I have greatly enjoyed helping many students increase their understanding of physics. I love seeing my students have a "light-bulb" moment where suddenly everything we discussed makes sense to them. I think it is extremely important for everyone to have (at least) a basic understanding of math and science as this helps us to better understand our world. I am greatly motivated to teach in a way that my students understand the fundamental principles and not in a way that they can merely get the right answer. I love trying to pass on my enthusiasm for math and science to my students, and I am always looking for ways to show how cool and fun mastering these subjects can be. Although I am most passionate about physics, I also tutor math and Spanish. When I'm not studying or teaching I enjoy swimming, reading (especially Michael Crichton and Orson Scott Card), and exchanging movie quotes with my roommates.
