What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that all people can learn. We only have to look for new ways of teaching because everyone learns in a different way. I believe in the philosophy of Paulo Freire, Vygotsky and Piaget.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will do some dynamics to meet and get to know each other.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I will dramatize the selection. Usually if they can see it as a visual story, they will understand what is happening between lines.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will use a lot of assessments.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I will recognize their effort.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I will do a diagnostic test.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use music, books, videos and movies.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will encourage the student to do some other studies, like an assignment.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would give them praise when they worked and tell them that they can become anything they want.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will use art and theatre to help them.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I like to use music, but it depends on the subject and what we are working on.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I motivate them through their journey.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
It depends on what they need. I use a diagnostic test to see where they are and what they need.
