Tutoring review by Marcella in Kearns, UT
Today was my first session with a life-long learner who has decided to go back to school to study Nutrition. She needs to fulfill her Foreign Language requirement and would like to preserve her above-average grade. We spent 2 hours reviewing her various study guides, notes, and homework assignment. She had many good questions which I believe I answered for her and she seemed much less anxious about the overall work-load of her course at the end of our session.

Tutoring review by Pooja in Kearns, UT
Today the student and I went over section 11-7 in his textbook which covered circles in a coordinate plane. Although he has not started going over this in class yet we decided to get a head start on it. He was easily able to find the center and radius from a equation written in the standard form of a circle and once we went over a few examples he was also able to change an equation of a circle into the standard form. At first, he often forgot to add the perfect square on both sides of the equation but after making this mistake a few times he began to remember to do this step. He had some difficulty when the problem gave a standard equation and then asked for the new standard equation after the circle was translated because he forgot that the dimensions of the center of a circle should be used when translating (the opposite sign of what is displayed in the standard equation). Towards the end of the session he was able to answer these questions correctly. He completed two worksheets on his own which I graded-all questions were answered correctly! I left him a worksheet to work on until our next session on Wednesday.

The student was excited to begin with our word game and chose great combinations for today's lesson. We did this session orally and she and I worked together to create a fun story which was quite lovely. This oral preparation was something she really enjoyed. We both felt successful working together in this mode. She is happy about working with me and works hard.
