I work as a Substitute teacher and because of this I am very capable of tutoring middle to high school students. I am an English focused tutor however there are a few other areas I can work with.

Now I am pursuing my Bachelor's at Trinity International University in Biblical Studies. That being said my most comfortable subject to tutor is math. I am a licensed EMT in Illinois and have worked in an Emergency Department with a Level 1 Trauma Center for a year. I have counseled Jr. high and high school students at summer camps and at a local youth group for two years, and I have tutored students non-professionally and by teachers' recommendations since high school. In my free time I play the piano, ukulele, and sing. I also join and form book clubs to discuss philosophy, theology, and Koine Greek, but I am always up for a pick-up game of basketball.

I have been a tutor since my junior year in high school, and I enjoy teaching all levels of math; everything from pre-algebra through calculus and linear algebra! I focus primarily on making sure that the definitions and processes given in class make intuitive sense, so that math can begin to feel like second nature.

Hello! My name is Preston Schwartz and I am currently a rising sophomore at Bentley University intending to double major in Public Policy and Global Studies. I went to high school at Council Rock High School North where I got my first experience in tutoring through a variety of national honors societies. I tutored students weekly for the National Honors Society and the National Math Honors Society as well as tutoring independently. Being able to tutor was one of my favorite activities in high school and I am excited to continue doing so through Varsity Tutors. Helping a student reach the "ah ha" moment is an incredible, irreplaceable feeling that I love.Outside of tutoring, I enjoy hiking with my friends, reading, playing with my dog, and playing sports. I play rugby for my University's team and I enjoy running as well as pickup games of baseball and football. I have found sports to be very similar to my academics in that my results are only determined by the work that I put in. As a result, I love exercising my mind by challenging myself to learn more and gain new knowledge; I hope to spread this love to all of my students.

Upon graduation I began work as a school based therapist, first for a special education cooperative and most recently with the Chicago charter school system. As a school based speech-pathologist I have worked with K-12 students at a variety of ability levels as well as transition aged students in a specialized program.I love bringing my clinical skills to my work as a tutor because it allows me to break skills down to their fundamental levels. Working with students to understand the concepts at play helps them to not only get the right answer but to understand the why. This skill based learning helps students understand information more thoroughly and generalize the skills across questions more effectively. Outside of work I like to keep active through running and volunteering with a local animal shelter. My ultimate goal is to one day raise and train a dog as my partner in animal assisted therapy services.
